MEDIA SILENT: Over 130 Imams Refuse to Perform Islamic Funeral Prayer for London Attackers

The recent terror attacks in the city of London, which left 7 people dead and many others critically wounded, brought sadness and sorrow across Britain and the world. Islam once again came under scrutiny when the attackers were identified as Muslims.

According to the British police, 3 men (Khuram Shazad Butt, Rachid Redouane, and Youssef Zaghba) rented a van to mow down people on London Bridge.

After the attack, the terrorists then left the van and started stabbing revelers, who were enjoying their night around Borough Market, with 12-inch knives. A police officer was also stabbed. The 3 men, wearing fake suicide bomb vests, were later shot dead by 8 police officers.

After the heinous attack, police and intelligence officials worked to identify the attackers. It emerged that one of the attackers was a resident of East London, and even attends the East London Mosque during prayers.

In accordance with Islamic practice, a special prayer is supposed to be held for a departed Muslim. The prayer is believed to be an attestation that the departed soul was a Muslim and lived an upright life while on earth.

According to the belief, this prayer can expiate some of the sins of the deceased, allowing the person to be spared some punishment after death. This makes the prayer very critical for every Muslim. The prayer is therefore held for any departed Muslim regardless of the actions of the person while living on earth.

But a group of imams are defying this important Islamic conventional practice in the wake of the London attack. An imam is the title of a worship leader in a mosque among the Muslim community. Over 130 imams and Islamic religious leaders in London refused to perform the traditional Islamic funeral prayer for the attackers who committed the London attacks.

These Islamic leaders came together to make this unanimous decision in protest against extremist groups using Islam as an excuse to attack unarmed innocent civilians. The imams issued a statement on social media regarding their decision, urging other Islamic religious leaders to adopt similar measures and send a clear message to those who murder innocent people: that no Islamic leader will stand by them.

“Consequently, and in light of other such ethical principles which are quintessential to Islam, we will not perform the traditional Islamic funeral prayer over the perpetrators and we also urge fellow imams and religious authorities to withdraw such a privilege. This is because such indefensible actions are completely at odds with the lofty teachings of Islam,” the statement said.

Leaders of the East London Mosque, who played a lead role in the decision not to observe the prayer for the attackers, said they would work to combat extremism. They explained the extremists have twisted and perverted the teachings of Islam.

The chairman of the East London Mosque and London Muslim Centre, Muhammad Habibur-Rahman stated: “Once again we come together, to stand united against those who try to divide us.

The cold-blooded murder of innocent people in London on Saturday evening will not succeed in driving us apart. I have a clear message to those who perpetrate terrorism: you are against the very core teaching of Islam and of our Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.”

Apart from these London imams taking a strong stand against the attackers, other Islamic leaders across the United Kingdom have also condemned the attack.

What’s important to note is how most mainstream media outlets have deliberately refused to report on the condemnations and measures being taken by the Muslim community to deter such attacks. They choose to fan the flames against the many Muslims who abhor such attacks rather than douse them.

Media Continues to Deny Fukushima Threat as Dying Navy Sailors Sue for $1 Billion Over Radiation

(RT) A federal appeals court has ruled that members of the US Navy can now, in a US court, pursue their lawsuit which alleges that they were exposed to radiation while providing aid after the nuclear crisis in Fukushima, Japan.

On Thursday, the US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco ruled in favor of the sailors who were exposed to dangerous levels of radiation while providing humanitarian aid after an earthquake destroyed the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in Japan.

The ruling allows sailors, who were aboard the ship at the time, to pursue their lawsuit against the state-owned Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) for misrepresented radiation levels in the surrounding air and water. The lawsuit alleges that TEPCO misled them about the extent of the radiation leak.

An investigation into the incident found that TEPCO did not take proper precautions to prevent the incident and described the meltdown as a “manmade” disaster. TEPCO later admitted the meltdown could have been avoided.

The Japanese government set up the Nuclear Damage Claim Dispute Resolution Center to deal with all the claims against TEPCO. So far, a total of $58 billion has been paid out to victims of the disaster.

However, TEPCO asked the courts to dismiss the case from the US sailors under the “firefighter’s rule,” which states that first responders cannot sue those who caused the emergency.

Up to 75,000 US citizens could have been affected by the meltdown, according to former Democratic senator and presidential candidate John Edwards who is presenting the case in court.

“These members of the United States Navy deserve their day in court, and they will get it,”said Edwards.“These American heroes served the United States and were innocent victims in a nuclear disaster that never should have happened. This case has broad US interests, both because of our nation’s long-standing relationship with Japan, and because plaintiffs in this case are members of the US military harmed while on a humanitarian mission.”

The sailors continue to suffer from blindness, thyroid cancer, leukemia and brain tumors, Edwards said.

Attorneys are seeking $1 billion in damages from TEPCO and several other defendants, including General Electric, EBASCO, Toshiba Corp. and Hitachi.

Marijuana’s Long Term Effects On The Brain Finally Revealed

With a drug war against marijuana still raging in more countries than not, the question of how long-term marijuana use effects the human brain is a pivotal question in its legalization.

Although alcohol remains legal despite heaps of evidence to the dangers of long-term use, the fight to make marijuana available both with regard to its medical properties (especially in selectively killing cancer cells) and non-medical uses has frequently hinged on the various claims made about marijuana’s effects on the recreational user.

Luckily, the debate can finally move out from the realm of opinion into scientific evidence as researchers from the University of Texas just published their research into the long-term effects of marijuana use on the brain in PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences).

The researcher helped dispel the dying myth that marijuana use lowers IQ, and actually provides more evidence to marijuana’s potential role in fighting Alzheimer’s.

The research revealed that earlier onset of regular marijuana use leads to greater structural and functional connectivity in the brain.

The most significant increases in connectivity appear as an individual begins using marijuana, with results showing that the severity of use is directly correlated to greater connectivity.

Although these results will need to be confirmed with a larger sample (this was based on roughly 100 participants), the preliminary results seemed promising.

More research needed to be done in order to see if these differences are caused by, or simply associated with, long term marijuana use.

The UT study also found reduced gray matter in the OFC (orbitofrontalcortex) in long-term users (which is a brain region associated with addiction). It was unclear whether this region is simply smaller in regular users (explaining their regular use) or if the use actually contributed to structural brain changes.

A more recent follow-up study (yes, we edit articles with new information) published in the Journal of Neuroscience, also with 100 people (50 adolescents and 50 adults) found no significant differences in brain structure relating to daily or non-daily cannabis consumption. Which pokes holes in the interpretation that cannabis consumption was the driver in the gray matter differences seen in University of Texas study.

These results will also need to be viewed in light of other researcher showing that cannabinoids actually promote brain cell growth/regrowth (neurogenesis) even in adults.

Why this could possibly remain illegal anywhere, is an important question, and hopefully people will continue to inform themselves and others on the topic.

Pearson has a huge monopoly over the education sector, so huge that it’s been able to hike up the prices without anyone being able to stop them.

Despite being based in London 60% of its sales go to the United States, and it operates in more than 70 countries. The company owns numerous educational publishing giants, such as Penguin, Harcourt and Prentice Hall.

According to the Huffington Post, textbook prices have increased a whopping 812% in the last 30 years, allegedly due to reduced competition brought about by Pearson’s monopoly.

Number 4 : ICBC

The Industrial and Commercial Bank Of China is a state owned banking goliath and undoubtedly the most powerful bank on the planet.

It has over $3 trillion in assests and a market value of $215.6 billion, meaning it reigns supreme at the top of Forbes’ “World’s Biggest Public Companies” list.

Number 3 : Monsanto

The American giant specializing in agricultural biotechnology is estimated to be worth a huge $65 billion.

It has nearly complete control over the American seed market.

Number 2 : Disney

More than half of the highest grossing movies of the last decade are owned by Disney,  showing how tight their grip over the film world is.

Over the years, The Walt Disney Company has acquired a few high-profile movie production companies. Most notably, there were purchases of Marvel Entertainment in 2009 and Lucasfilm in 2012, both of which cost over $4 billion. They own TV networks ABC, ESPN and The History Channel.
