This story proves both the compassion of humanity and the true nature of the emotions that animals feel. It is heartbreaking to witness the terror in this cow’s eyes, but the love shown by human beings is sure to warm your heart and restore your faith in humanity.

A German dairy cow by the name of Emma, was petrified when she was loaded onto a trailer and taken away from her home. Poor Emma can actually be seen shedding tears over the thought that she might be headed for the slaughterhouse. Little did she know, an animal-rights group would soon give her a new home.

After the dairy farm that Emma previously lived at was shut down, Emma’s life was scheduled to end at a slaughterhouse, that is, until a compassionate group of human beings stepped in and rescued her. This group rescues dairy cows and retires them to a farm where they can happily live out the rest of their lives, and thanks to them, Emma was saved from the very fate that so terribly scared her.

Her new home, Kuhrettung Rhein-Berg Sanctuary, is a true sanctuary that includes lush green grass and a very welcoming herd of cows who are eager to play with their new mate. Through the compassion showed by human beings, Emma can now live a moo-tastic life and “just be.”

Love wins again.

Dairy cows are known for producing milk and other related dairy products. Cows are impregnated numerous times to give birth to calves so that mothers can continue to produce milk for human consumption. Young calves are taken away from their mothers shortly after birth, and though the process of taking calves away is done early on in an effort to cause minimal stress, it is done repeatedly (cows have been known to cry for hours after their babies are taken away). Cows who can no longer produce milk are slaughtered.
